Facebook has been hit now for two days in a row by a phishing scam. Facebook monitors their network for URL’s that are distributed in mass to users and relies on users to inform them of these scams. In the newest scam, after receiving a message from a friend to “check this out” users are directed to a page that asks them to log into Facebook a second time. When the user id and password are entered into the page, the information is stolen. Each member in the user’s friends list then receives the same message. Facebook officials are unsure if the two scams are related.
Official believe that both scams have been stopped by measures that they have already taken. It is important for members to realize that once signed in they are not usually asked to sign in again. Users should check the URL of the sign in page to be sure that it says www.facebook.com. If it does not, do not give your information out. Passwords of accounts used to spread spam have been reset. Officials say that Facebook is working diligently to protect the social network. If you think you have been infected you should change your password. When the same password is used on other sites, it should also be changed as a safety precaution.
One of the most common of all types of cancers is skin cancer. In fact, there are over one million cases reported each year. Skin cancer occurs in three types. Basil cell skin and squamous cell carcinomas are not likely to cause death but can cause disfigurement and should be treated as soon as possible. Carcinomas are most often found in the parts of the body most often exposed to the sun, such as the face, head, neck and arms. People who have spent the most amount of time in the sun are the most likely to have these types of cancers.
Those with fair completion, freckles and moles are also more prone to carcinomas. Melanomas are more dangerous types of skin cancers. When not detected, they can metastasize and spread to other parts of the body. Melanoma, when spread is more difficult to treat and can be fatal. In order to avoid all types of skin cancers, everyone should use a high SPF sunscreen wear hats and clothing that covers the skin. Sunscreen should block both UVA and UVB rays from the sun. Sunshades should be worn at all times when in the sun to protect the eyes from cataracts.
Apparently, men do not consider the things off of their diet or that are not healthy activities as “guilty pleasures.” They just think of them as pleasurable. The idea of participating in something that would make a woman feel guilt usually is scoffed at by men. They do not feel guilt; they embrace and enjoy those types of things. If they over indulge, they may feel a bit of physical discomfort but never a twinge of guilt. Men may acknowledge that they have a vice of some sort, but will fall short of calling it a “guilty pleasure.” Men also do not understand why women will not only feel guilt about something, but will go to great lengths to conceal their sin, too.
The author of this article will admit to enjoying several things that most men may not include on their own list of pleasures. His not-so-guilty pleasures are eating quiche, soaking in a long, hot bubble bath and viewing reality television programs that involve women showing themselves at their most shallow moments. More women should follow the advice of enjoying themselves and leaving out the guilt. It has worked for men for ages. At least, women should get better at their hiding skills.
The Mexican government’s health secretary has released statements telling the citizens that the worst is over and that the spread of the swine flu is definitely in decline. While a hopeful outlook is good, other governments or researchers are not agreeing with that cheerful thought. Gregory Hartl held a news conference Sunday saying that his department for pandemice and epidemic diseases at the WHO, has quite a contrary outlook at this period of the swine flu. Reminding everyone that the outbreak of the illness is less than two weeks old. And while it could very well be in a phase of decline at present, that does not mean that it will not return. Hartl asked all to look back at the year 1918, when the Spanish flu was in full swing. He stated that in the spring of that year the flu seemed to slow and almost stop in its spread. However, it returned in the fall with a fury and killed almost fifty million people by the time it stopped.
The current situation is completely unpredictable and it seems a bit early for anyone to declare that the swine flu is getting under control. With the number of confirmed cases nearing nine hundred and more expected in the days to come, it is far from over. Still, the one thing that everyone seems to agree upon is that panic is not the answer. Regular flu season precautions are all we have at present.
The manufacturer of Hydroxy cut products has voluntarily recalled the product and the FDA has advised that persons stop taking the dietary suppliment immediately. The cause for the recall is that several persons using the product as directed have developed liver damage. Signs of liver damage include brown urine, stomach pain, nausia, and vomiting. Hydroxycut is sold as a suplement. The FDA can take action against companies producing supliments once it is on the market. For the past two years, manufacturers must report any adverse side effects to the FDA within 15 days of learning ot them. Hydroxycut is believed to have caused the death of one young man. The FDA is still trying to determine what causes the liver damage in some but not all persons who use the product.
The task is made more difficult since the supplement contains sever herbal elements. The leading trade association for nutritional suppliments, The Council for Responsible Nutrition, has said the both the FDA and manufacturer of Hydorxycut have taken appropiate measures in the recall and wanring to stop taking the product. Once the ingrediant that causes the liver damage has been identified, the manufacturer may choose to begin selling the product after reformulating it so that the offencing ingredient is no longer included.
Twenty-two seniors who have completed every requirement for graduation will not be allowed to walk across the main stage at their graduation ceremonies at Slippery Rock University. These students are not missing out on their graduation ceremony because of any discipline problem and in actuality will have a small private ceremony that includes only the twenty-two students, family, friends and university officials. Video of the smaller ceremony will be shown at the main graduation. Why can these students attend their main graduation ceremony?
They have spent most of the last month teaching in Mexico and the fears of their exposure to swine flu, (now being called H1N1) will keep them from the rest of the party. The group left Mexico ahead of schedule because of fear of the border closing that would make them miss the ceremonies. Hundreds of people have called the University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania to inquire about the students being at the graduation ceremonies. Other schools have canceled graduation ceremonies and high school proms. Others will continue with ceremonies without the traditional handshake from the dean of the student’s school. Even athletic teams have been banned from traveling to other schools to participate in sporting events.
In an effort to “pay them back for their service”, astronauts Bob Crippen and Scott Carpenter recently visited a Florida island rescue sanctuary for chimpanzees. While some of the chimps in the sanctuary were involved in the space program or are their descendants, many others have been involved in medical research. Until this sanctuary was developed, many such research chimps have lived their lives out in cages after serving the purpose of researchers. Before coming to the sanctuary, one chimp, Gromek, who had been used in blood studies, had been in his cage for over 40 years without ever leaving.
Other space chimps living at the compound include Gogi, Dana, and Lil’ Mini, daughter of the back up chimp, Mini. The sanctuary allows the chimps to live in social groups of about twenty-five. Because they cannot swim, water around the islands keeps them contained. The so called “space chimps” were sent into space in the Mercury space program of 1950’s and 1960’s to see if sending men into space was safe. At the time, there were fears that man could not outside of the earth’s atmosphere. The work of the chimps allowed the space program to continue. There are currently about 150 chimps at the compound and room for 300.
