One of the most common of all types of cancers is skin cancer. In fact, there are over one million cases reported each year. Skin cancer occurs in three types. Basil cell skin and squamous cell carcinomas are not likely to cause death but can cause disfigurement and should be treated as soon as possible. Carcinomas are most often found in the parts of the body most often exposed to the sun, such as the face, head, neck and arms. People who have spent the most amount of time in the sun are the most likely to have these types of cancers.
Those with fair completion, freckles and moles are also more prone to carcinomas. Melanomas are more dangerous types of skin cancers. When not detected, they can metastasize and spread to other parts of the body. Melanoma, when spread is more difficult to treat and can be fatal. In order to avoid all types of skin cancers, everyone should use a high SPF sunscreen wear hats and clothing that covers the skin. Sunscreen should block both UVA and UVB rays from the sun. Sunshades should be worn at all times when in the sun to protect the eyes from cataracts.
Apparently, men do not consider the things off of their diet or that are not healthy activities as “guilty pleasures.” They just think of them as pleasurable. The idea of participating in something that would make a woman feel guilt usually is scoffed at by men. They do not feel guilt; they embrace and enjoy those types of things. If they over indulge, they may feel a bit of physical discomfort but never a twinge of guilt. Men may acknowledge that they have a vice of some sort, but will fall short of calling it a “guilty pleasure.” Men also do not understand why women will not only feel guilt about something, but will go to great lengths to conceal their sin, too.
The author of this article will admit to enjoying several things that most men may not include on their own list of pleasures. His not-so-guilty pleasures are eating quiche, soaking in a long, hot bubble bath and viewing reality television programs that involve women showing themselves at their most shallow moments. More women should follow the advice of enjoying themselves and leaving out the guilt. It has worked for men for ages. At least, women should get better at their hiding skills.
Twenty-two seniors who have completed every requirement for graduation will not be allowed to walk across the main stage at their graduation ceremonies at Slippery Rock University. These students are not missing out on their graduation ceremony because of any discipline problem and in actuality will have a small private ceremony that includes only the twenty-two students, family, friends and university officials. Video of the smaller ceremony will be shown at the main graduation. Why can these students attend their main graduation ceremony?
They have spent most of the last month teaching in Mexico and the fears of their exposure to swine flu, (now being called H1N1) will keep them from the rest of the party. The group left Mexico ahead of schedule because of fear of the border closing that would make them miss the ceremonies. Hundreds of people have called the University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania to inquire about the students being at the graduation ceremonies. Other schools have canceled graduation ceremonies and high school proms. Others will continue with ceremonies without the traditional handshake from the dean of the student’s school. Even athletic teams have been banned from traveling to other schools to participate in sporting events.
It seems that due the economy everything is being downsized. Looking around at autos and computers, you will see smaller is the new better. There is one industry that is taking a different view on that idea, though. Some fashion lines are making the smart move to expand, rather than downsize, their products.
Both Forever 21 and Target, known as “cheap chic emporiums,” will be launching fashion lines exclusively targeted at plus-size teenagers. Coming in the spring, the lines will let girls of all sizes have choices in apparel, that before were only available to those under the plus size categorization.
Faith 21, by Forever 21, will add sizes extra large to double extra large to the teen’s choices. Target has named their new addition Pure Energy. It will have sizes up to size thirty.
Already shoppers are expressing excitement over the upcoming changes. They are looking forward to the chance at going to one place to shop with their friends that will have choices for all. They also believe that this change is way overdue. The statistics seem to be in their favor. Most designers offer nothing over a size ten, although the average woman in the United States is a size fourteen.
Addicts who have been clean for many years may continue to battle the urge to return to their old habbits. Sometiemes they win the battle, often times they loose. Many addicts have tried rehab and go not only one time, but two or three and still fail. Most rehab centers use 12 step programs along with counseling. Few rehab centers use the anti-addictive pills. The pills, naltrexone are said to prevent the urge or craving to use alcohol again. They have been available for use in alcoholics for sveral years and some users swear by them.
Injections are given for a period of time and then stopped. Doctors tell the patients that if they feel the urge or craveing again, they can come back for additonal dosage. One person who started treatment 8 years ago, while naltrexone was still in the trial phase says that he has been clean ever since. He can walk throug a bar, see the sights and smell the smells without even carving a drink. He can even sit at the bar and drink soda and tell a frined who offers to buy him a drink that he is fine with his soda.
Andrea Ivory has decided that just surviving breast cancer is not enough. She is determined that more women take control of their own health and she is doing something about it. She has built an army to combat this problem. The FBHI, or Florida Breast Health Initiative, Ivory formed with the idea of going from house to house to promote education and awareness of breast cancer.
While empowering all women to get involved, they spend much of their time seeking out women who don’t have insurance and are over the age of thirty-four. This group is more likely to be diagnosed too late to survive the cancer. The FBHI has since its inception has helped fund more than five hundred mammograms. The founder believes that the only way to beat the enemy is by detecting it early. Some of those who have been helped through this effort have become volunteers to help spread the word.
While going through her own health battle, she realized how fortunate she was to have been provided with health coverage. That got her thinking about all of those women who are not covered. She likens this to a war and believes that she and her army of volunteers on the front line. She plans to win this one, too.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects thousands of children across the United States. For the past several years there has been an ongoing argument as to the mechanism that this disorder affects the brain.
Some have argued that the brain develops differently in children with ADHD than in other children. Others have taken the stance that the brain develops in the same way, only slower. A new study by the National Institute of Health suggests that the later is true. This study was made possible through the use of a new technique that allows measurement of the thickening and thinning of the cortex of the brain through imaging.
This study suggests that in the brain of an ADHD child develops more slowly. All human brains develop from the back to the front. Since the control center is located more toward the front of the brain, the delay in prevents its development by the time the child is in school. The area will eventually develop however it may not happen until the child reaches 10. These delays often make it difficult for children to catch up in the things they may have missed. Often the ADHD child may not catch up in these areas until adulthood.
It is getting harder to deal with this economic crisis in places where there at least some employment opportunities. Imagine living an area where the businesses are just leaving or downsizing so much that the chances of getting work are nearly impossible. Such is the case in a small county in North Carolina. In the little town of Spruce Pine, the unemployment rate is not just a problem, it is nearing catastrophe.
One couple shared their story of struggle with CNN. They both have lost their jobs. He returned to school to get his GED and then got new job training. In his new field of expertise, he got a job again, only to lose it quickly due to downsizing. She has also taken the learning a new skill route, but has little hope of finding employment. Their county has just over 15,000 residents, two thousand of which have lost their jobs within the last 3 years. The mill that once employed a large number of the residents, now serves as a food pantry. The organizer of the pantry says that it is barely meeting the needs of the community as the jobless rate skyrockets. The town has decided to take some action, though. They are preparing to become a tourist attraction by selling locally crafted goods. The leaders believe that this will breathe new life into a dying community. They only hope that the people can hold on until business starts coming in.
In an argument that has been in the headlines for several years now, there has been a earth shaking ruling. The FDA has determined that the legal age of getting the “morning after pill” will be lowered from 18 years old to 17. The pill, also called Plan B, has been controversial before legal age for it even was a topic of discussion. Earlier, in a district court ruling the judge declared that it should not be left up to a judge in his position to determine the cut off age for this product. The further ruled that the decision should be left to the the Food and Drug Administration, as its experts were better qualified in this area. Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, praised the decision. She said that is showed that politics did not come before women’s health and she supports the announcement enthusiastically.
Plan B is a pill that can be taken up to seventy-two hours after engaging in unprotected sex and has a ninety percent chance of preventing pregnancy. It not only interrupts ovulation, but is able to stop an egg that has become fertilized from attaching to the lining of the uterus.
